Today’s experience as the storytelling winner?
Um, I’d say shocking cause I really had little to no preparation at all.
The day before, I was appointed as a participant by my homeroom teacher because nobody initiated themselves, he chose me probably because I had some experience during junior high. Honestly speaking, I thought there’s no way I’m gonna win with just 1 day of preparation so I was mildly panicked.
I had to choose an Indonesian folklore from West Java and there weren’t much, I decided to pick Si Kabayan as my story because it was short, funny, and something new. I knew the other participants will choose either Sangkuriang or Lutung Kasarung and the judges would be bored by then, am I right?
I typed out the script and translated it to English, memorising it was easy since it’s short. After that, I was supposed to practice performing it but I actually fell asleep since I was tired so I really didn’t practice my performance at all.
I planned out my costume and props during the day of, it was super hectic and I was very nervous, of course. Especially when the junior high schoolers walked in, they really went all out. My mentality really dropped right then and there but we were in different categories so I really had nothing to worry about.
Thankfully, there was someone who cheered me on and gave me that little push of confidence. When it was finally my turn, the performance went well. My nervousness finally washed away as I thought that I finally got it over with.
Around 30 minutes later, the announcement finally came. I was very nervous as to who was the winner. There was no need for me to be so anxious anymore cause my name was paired with being 1st place.
I’m really thankful for the people who supported me along the way, ones who had high hopes for me, even though I really didn’t prepare much.
Thank you!
